If Your Name Is . . .
Years ago, one of my parishioners told his story of returning from a business trip to Los Angeles. He had made his way to LAX, but sometime after arriving, discovered his airplane ticket was missing. Mike searched his belongings but it was not there. He retraced all his steps through the airport, but still nothing. He called the hotel where he had been staying to ask if it had been found in his room—they were no help.
Finally, in desperation he approached an agent at the airline desk and said, “I hope you can help me.” Seeing the distraught look on his face, the agent replied, “If your name is Mike,” –and added his last name—“I can!”
Often we approach Jesus the same way. We’ve done everything we could to fix a thing. We’ve searched everywhere for a solution to a problem; we’ve talked and talked about our dilemma to anyone who would listen. Sometimes, we literally make ourselves sick with worry. As a last resort and in despair we approach the One who is always interceding for us and ask, “Jesus, can You help me?” Much like the airline agent, He replies, “If your name is—and He calls us by name—I can!”
