"I found more and more undeniable proofs, that the Christian state is a continual warfare; and that we have need every moment to 'watch and pray, lest we enter into temptation.' " ---John Wesley, Saturday, May 17, 1740

"Perhaps in heaven we will have the opportunity to tell some of our friends what we neglected to tell them down here.  In the meantime we shall be wise to find the time to let our friends know how much they mean to us.  The opportunity to do so can vanish in the twinkling of an eye." ---Walter Albritton in Life is Short So Laugh Often, Live Fully and Love Deeply

"Endeavour to say all the good that can be said, and none of the evil. It is remarkable that when we make the effort to speak kindly on behalf of those against whom we feel exasperated, the whole inward temper changes and takes on the tone of our voice." ---F. B. Meyer

"One thing we can lay up in heaven is money. One would think from the grudging gifts of many of God's people, the way that many contributions to the cause of the gospel have to be begged, surprised and literally wrenched out of others, that the general idea is that all such money given is value lost; when the fact is that the only part of our earthly treasure in gold and silver and bank notes which is saved from a burning world and the wreck and ruin of time is that portion which we gave to heaven." ---Beverly Carradine in A Box of Treasure

"The life that intends to be wholly obedient, wholly submissive, wholly listening, is astonishing in its completeness.  Its joys are ravishing, its peace profound, its humility the deepest, its power world-shaking, its love enveloping, its simplicity that of a trusting child.  It is the life and power in which the prophets and apostles lived.  It is the life and power of Jesus of Nazareth, who knew that 'when thine eye is single thy whole body is full of light' (Luke 11:34)." ---Thomas Kelly in A Testament of Devotion
