Quotes for the Day - August 10, 2010

"God seems to plant His saints in the most useless places. And then we say, 'God intends for me to be here because I am so useful to Him.' Yet Jesus never measured His life by how or where He was of the greatest use. God places His saints where they will bring the most glory to Him, and we are totally incapable of judging where that may be." ---Oswald Chambers

"We should be an example on the lines of moderation, kindness, consideration of others, and show a beautiful unvarying Christian courtesy to all. This would only have to be seen to be admired and commended, while such living would at the same time most powerfully preach the man of Galilee whose spirit we say we possess, and whose commandments and words we follow." ---Beverly Carradine in A Box of Treasure, p. 17.

"We are far more effective if we know that the Gospel will never be entirely acceptable, and that the Christian Movement will continue to be a minority movement. The Gospel must seek to penetrate the world and all of its parts, but it cannot do so unless there is a sense in which it is in contrast to the world." ---Elton Trueblood in The Incendiary Fellowship

"Jesus understood the very heart of relationship with the Father. It must never be forgotten. It is the standard for every action; the measuring rod for every deed. God initiates and we respond! I want relationship with Jesus like Jesus had with His Father. This is only possible if I grasp the heart of that relationship. I will live in a state of sensitivity to the slightest movement of the indwelt Spirit of Christ. All of my actions will be a response to Him. I will no longer respond to my circumstances, feeling, or rights. I want to live out of His mind. I want to beat with His heart." ---Stephen Manley, Jesus Pusher 54
