Quotes for the Day - August 23, 2010

"God's delays are not denials; they are not neglectful nor unkind. He is waiting with watchful eye and intent for the precise moment to strike, when He can give a blessing which will be without alloy, and will flood all after life with blessings so royal, so plenteous, so divine, that eternity will be too short to utter all our praise." ---F. B. Meyer

"It was . . . intention that made the primitive Christians such eminent instances of piety, that made the goodly fellowship of the Saints and all the glorious army of martyrs and confessors. And if you will here stop and ask yourself why you are not as pious as the primitive Christians were, your own heart will tell you that it is neither through ignorance nor inability, but purely because you never thoroughly intended it." ---William Law in A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life

"Brokenness comes soon or late to us all.   Whining about it, or asking 'Why me?' gets us nowhere.  Pain is inevitable but misery is a choice.  Deal with your brokenness bravely, with a positive spirit, and your example is bound to encourage someone else." ---Walter Albritton in Life is Short So Lough Often, Live Fully, and Love Deeply

"In the terrain of life with God, grace is not a ticket to heaven, but the earth under our feet on the road with Christ." ---Richard J. Foster in Life with God

"It is certainly one thing for the leader of a meetting to tell a couple of hundred people to cry out 'Hallelujah!' and a totally different thing when God bids them do it.  It is the difference between perspiration and inspiration; between thunder and lightning and between human noise and divine power.  In the former case the shout is bigger than the faith, in the latter instance the faith is greater than the shout." ---Beverly Carradine in A Box of Treasure
