Quotes for the Day - August 21, 2010

"You will never go home at night, put your head on your pillow, and say, 'All that negative talk sure did me a lot of good today!'" ---Walter Albritton in Life is Short So Laugh Often, Live Fully, and Love Deeply

"The phrase we hear so often, Decide for Christ, is an emphasis on something Our Lord never trusted.  He never asks us to decide for Him, but to yield to Him---a very different thing." ---Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest

"A disciplined character just for the sake of a disciplined character can be as vain and useless as an undisciplined character.  The end must be a larger usefulness, and to this one aim all the various strands of discipline must be compelled to pay tribute." ---Richard S. Taylor in The Disciplined Life

"However bad the Church may be in practice it is the necessary vehicle for Christ's penetration of the world.  Even though it is normally much adulterated, the Church is now, as always, the saving salt.  The inteligent plan, then, is never to abandon the Church, but, instead, to find some way of restoring the salt." ---Elton Trueblood in The Incendiary Fellowship

"It seems to me that resilient people understand in a strange way that it is important to inflict pain upon themselves.  To demand that extra something from the body, the mind, the soul, that most people do not naturally want to give.  And that makes all the difference." ---Gordon MacDonald in A Resilient Life
