Quotes for the Day - August 20, 2010

"We're urged to look for the quick fix rather than to look inside at our own resources.  If we don't look, we don't find, and our capabilities remain hidden.  We end up seeing limitations instead of possibilities." ---Hal Urban in Life's Greatest Lessons: 20 Things That Matter

"A child of God never prays to be conscious that God answers prayer, he is so restfully certain that God always does answer prayer." ---Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest

"The value of encouragement cannot be overestimated.  Everybody needs it.  Everybody can give it.  Nobody lives well without it.  Children need it.  Young people need it.  Adults need it.  Old people must have it to survive.  Look around every day for someone you can encourage." ---Walter Albritton in Life is Short So Laugh Often, Live Fully, and Love Deeply

"Today there seems to be a far greater emphasis on the glamour of achievement rather than the grittiness of it." ---Gordon MacDonald in A Resilient Life

"Human beings are so important to God that the divine purposes are worked out through the messiness and sprawl of human history.  Apparently, it is more important to God that human beings learn his ways in freedom than it is to get things done efficiently." ---Richard J. Foster in Life with God
